Dear Members,Spring has brought nothing but more snow! Our Southeast District has been busy preparing for spring nonetheless.
Our All-Day meeting is scheduled for April 24. Our speakers will be Mr. Barry Regan and Attorney Vincent Dunn on "Risk Management: A Broad Based Approach."
Barry is an old friend to those of us in the district. He has been one of our "Go To" guys at EDIC, giving talks on Risk Management, and always being available for advice to EDIC policyholders whenever an individual problem arises. He can be entertaining, as well as informative.
We can expect a course that will not only inform, but will make us stop and think about we do in our practices in terms of managing risk, communications with staff and patients, and minimizing exposure to unforeseen events. We look forward to a good turnout at this course.
Our last meeting was very well received. Moftah El-Ghadi and Mark Doherty gave a presentation that was informative, entertaining, and, yes, even funny at some points. Hopefully we can look forward to more presentations from Mark and Moftah, as well as other members of our society.
Two of our Life Member recipients who were recognized at our last meeting represent multi-generations of Dental practitioners. Mark Doherty (yes, the father of our last speaker) is a fifth generation Dentist going back to Nineteenth Century Ireland! Bob Harelick is just starting his Dental Dynasty, being in practice with his son and daughter-in-law. There are a number of other multi-generation dentists in our society. It’s always fun to go to gatherings and see generations of Lacostes, Fasys, Hoys’, Harelicks, Dohertys, and as well as others in our group.
We look forward to our Annual All-Day meeting.

Dear Southeastern District members:
Will winter ever end? I think we areall eagerly anticipating the arrival of daffodils, tulips and warmer weather. As we wait for the warmer weather to arrive I hope you will all support ourdistrict and state dental society efforts. On Wednesday, April 3rdthe Massachusetts Dental Society will be hosting our annual Beacon Hill Day. Onthis day fellow dentists gather to talk with our legislators on Beacon Hill onmatters that affect our delivery of dental care as well as listen to experts in the field of public policy. This year there has been a bill filed to allow hygienists to perform irreversible procedures as mid-level providers. We must all show solidarity to defeat legislation such as this which can harm the health of the public. You can still attend Beacon Hill day by registering on the massdental.org website or by contacting Victoria Ryan at the Massachusetts Dental Society (508-480-9797) ext. 242.
In addition to this I would like to see all of you at our annual full-day seminar and SEDDS annual meeting on Wednesday, April 24th. I think we have a really fun and informative seminar set up with myself, Barry Regan of EDIC, Attorney Vincent Dunn, and our own BORID representative Dr. Milt Glicksman. We will be discussing the new proposed BORID regulations for registration of dental assistants and the new BORID regulations that allow dentists to administer BOTOX and dermal fillers. There is a lot of misinformation out there about these new regs. and we will have Dr. Glicksman give us the most current and correct information. It would be great to have all the attendees bring their assistants so they can hear directly how these regulations will affect them. In addition we will have a panel with Dr. Glicksman, Barry Regan, Vin Dunn and myself to answer questions you have about the legal and regulatory side of practicing dentistry. This seminar will qualify for the biannual 5% risk management with EDIC.
